Tessa Knapp

Tessa Knapp is a German artist working in the field of experimental film, video and installation.

Interested in the poetic elements of time she explores shadow, light and space. Working with the media of film she captures the hidden in the visible, the in-between a frozen motion.

Leading away from the representative image she structures movements by editing and arranging footage in fixed video-tableaux.

Within this year Tessa Knapp will matriculate with a master degree at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne, supervised by the experimental film-maker Matthias Müller, video artist Marcel Odenbach and media archaeologist Sigfried Zielinski.

Her works have been screened and nominated at numerous festivals, amongst others at European Media Art Festival Osnabrück, Kunstfilmbiennale Köln, Videoformes Clermont-Ferrand and at the German Filmfestival Max-Ophüls-Preis. She received the first award for experimental film at Showcase International Film Forum in Germany and a Special Mention at Cordoba animation festival in Argentina. Her video works have been exhibited in Europe, Thailand and the USA
