| Teos Kuvitteellinen puutarha on dekoratiivinen ja liittyy kiinteästi ornamenttien ja koristemaalauksen maailmaan. Kuvioitu pinta hallitsee teoksen yleisilmettä, ornamenttikuvion aiheena ovat kasvien varret, kukat, nuput ja lehdet. Kokonaisuudesta erottuvat kahdet ilmeettömät ihmiskasvot, jotka on rajattu tiukasti silmien ja suun ympäriltä. Katsoja hakee kuvasta lisää kasvoja, mutta ne eivät toistu kuten muut aiheet. Maalauksen värit ovat hillityt ja kasvit on kuvattu hyvin tyylitellysti ja kaksiulotteisesti. Ieva Iltneren maalausten aiheina puutarha ja kasvit ovat toistuneet aikaisemminkin. Hän on kuvannut myös interiöörejä. Teoksissa voi nähdä näynomaisia, haaveiden, unien ja unelmien kuvia. Hän on kuvannut häivähdyksiä jostain paremmasta, jossa todellisuus on viety astetta pidemmälle. Iltnere kuvaa teoksissaan myös kauneutta ja muodollisuutta, pintaa, jonka takaa heijastuvat pidättyvät tunteet. Muodollisen kauneuden kuvaamista ja täydellisyyden tavoittelua on usein pidetty pakona todellisuudesta. Iltneren kuvaamat ihmiset ovat osa täydellisyyttä, mutta he eivät esitä mitään roolia tai näytä tunteitaan. He ovat osa täydellistä pintaa. Ieva Iltnere on ollut mukana Rauma Biennale Balticum -näyttelyssä myös aikaisemmin vuonna 1994, jolloin Helena Demakovan kokoaman näyttelyn teemana oli Kesäyön unelma. Iltnere kuuluu latvialaisten taiteilijoiden sukupolveen, joka aloitti uransa 1980- luvulla ja heijasteli avoimesti työskentelyssään individuaalisuutta, omia henkilökohtaisia arvoja ja sisäisiä tuntemuksia. |
Imaginary Garden is a work that is decorative and
closely linked to the world of ornament and decorative
painting. The patterned surface dominates the
overall impression of the work, the motifs of the ornamental
pattern being the stems, blossoms, buds and
leaves of plants. Two human faces sharply cropped
around the eyes and mouth are discernible in the
work. The viewer looks for more faces, but they are
not repeated like the other motifs. The colours of the
painting are restrained and the plants are represented
in a highly stylized and two-dimensional manner.
Ieva Iltnere has taken gardens and plants as the
themes of her paintings also on previous occasions,
and she has depicted interiors. Vision-like images of
dreams and reverie can be seen in her works. She has
depicted glimpses of something better where reality
has been taken one step further. Iltnere’s works also
represent beauty and the formal, a surface beyond
which restrained emotions are reflected. The depiction
of formal beauty and the quest for perfection
have often been regarded as flight from reality. The
people portrayed by Iltnere are part of perfection, but
they do not play any role or express their feelings.
They are part of the perfect surface of the work.
Ieva Iltnere participated in the Rauma Biennale
Balticum in 1994, when the biennial, compiled by
Helena Demakova, had A Midsummer Night’s Dream
as its theme. Iltnere belongs to the generation of
Latvian artists who began their careers in the 1980s
openly reflecting individuality, personal values and
internal feelings in their work.
