| Kukat ovat pehmeitä veistoksia, jotka olen tehnyt riisuutumalla puistossa ja jättämällä vaatteet nurmikolle. Näiden esineiden arvoitus antaa mielikuvituksen luoda muotokuvan naisesta, joka riisuutuu ja kulkee alastomana tietyssä ympäristössä. Teos voidaan tulkita kauniiksi, mutta usein maasta löydetyt alus- ja sukkahousujen tapaiset vaatteet joutuvat sinne raiskauksien yhteydessä. Tässä tilanteessa meillä on hyvin pelottava arvoitus. Hylätyt on sarja valokuvia, jotka dokumentoivat hylättyjä vaatteita, jotka on löydetty sattumalta eri puolilla kaupunkia roikkumassa puiston pensaista tai pudotettuna junaradalle. Katsojan mielikuvitusta kiihotetaan esittämällä kysymyksiä hylätyistä vaatteista. Kukat voidaan nähdä viattomana, mutta Hylättyjen viattomuus on murskattu. Niiden todellisuus on likainen, kylmä ja koditon. Tulevaisuus näyttäytyy epävarmana, identiteetti kadotettuna ja funktio tuntemattomana. Hylätyton dokumentti, todiste ja arvoitus... Ne ovat välillä hankalia. recipesfromscraps.net-nettisivut on luotu Rauma Biennale Balticum 2008:aa varten. Sivuilla on ohjeita erilaisten jätteiden ja hylätyn tavaran käyttämiseksi, ruoaksi, vaatteina, huonekaluina ja lähes kaikkeen. Sivut on luotu vastustamaan kertakäyttökulttuuria, jossa otetaan liikaa ja ylimääräinen heitetään menemään. Ihmisten on ymmärrettävä, että olemme vain käymässä maapallolla ja meidän tulisi kohdella luontoa kunnioituksella. |
Flowers are soft sculptures made by undressing myself
in a park and leaving the clothes in the grass.
The mystery of these objects lets the imagination
create the portrait of a woman who undresses and
walks about nude in a specific environment. This
work can be interpreted as beautiful, but clothing
such as knickers and tights found on the ground are
often lost in a rape. In this situation we have a very
frightening mystery.
The Abandoned is a series of photographs documenting
abandoned clothes found by chance in
various places in the city, in a park hanging from a
bush or dropped onto a railway track. The spectator’s
imagination is stimulated to ask questions about
things that are abandoned. Flowers might be seen
as innocent, but the innocence of The Abandoned is
destroyed. Their reality is dirty, cold and homeless.
The future appears uncertain, identity lost – function
unknown. The Abandoned are a document, a proof
and a riddle... They are at times awkward.
The recipesfromscraps.net site has been created
for Rauma Biennale Balticum 2008. On the web page
there are all kinds of recipes and instructions for
using all kinds of refuse and scrap, for meals, clothes,
furniture and almost anything. The site is made to
resist the throwaway culture of taking too much and
throwing the excess away. It is necessary for people to
understand that we are only guests on the earth and
we should treat nature with respect.
